Laser cutting wood to create an organic shape for a chair is a modern and innovative approach to furniture design. Laser cutting technology allows for precise and intricate cuts in wood, allowing designers to create complex organic shapes that would be difficult to achieve with traditional woodworking tools. With laser cutting, designers can create unique and innovative designs that push the boundaries of what is possible with traditional furniture-making techniques. By utilizing digital design software, designers can create precise and intricate designs that can be easily translated into the laser cutting process. The result is a chair with a unique and intricate organic shape that is not only visually striking but also functional and comfortable to sit in. Laser cutting also allows for more efficient and sustainable use of wood resources, as it allows for precise cuts that minimize waste. Using laser cut materials, I was able to achieve this organic form using the least amount of wood boards.
My modern twist on the chair provides its user with two seating positions as well as a sleek silhouette. This chair was created by laser cutting pieces of recycled plywood and attached with wood glue. This project began as a study on how people use "sitting-tools" and interact with their environment.

This project began with a study of how chairs can be used as "tools for sitting." We began by exploring our campus for ways that people interact with chairs. Each silhouette was studied by viewing individuals contact points with the chair, where they are being supported, and understanding their natural sitting position.
